Question something like how normally i should do ab work outs?

i know that they say every other morning so you can give ur muscles time to retstore but i carry NO results from that, i started doing 500 sit ups a night and in a week i got a 2 pack, i inevitability a 6 pack cause i hold a gut that needs to run away. how badly am i messing up my muscles if i dont stop doing ab work outs eeryday? should i instead do close to 600 every other day? and should i do adjectives of my sit ups at once or in sets, wreak i do them all at once
