Can someone dispense me information on recovering drug addiction?

This question is pertaining to my brother who's be on drugs for the longest. In and out of jail, you autograph, etc. Recently he's been surrounded by rehap, supposedly going to meetings. My cross-question is...should he be drinking alcohol? I don't think he should because they're both an addiction. Perhaps, drinking could grounds him to have a relapse. I don't know much but I suggest I know he shouldn’t be drinking at all! Anyone near any experience in recovering from drugs or alcohol please share your understanding.
I had a New Year’s conference over to the house...he drank, and during our mother's celebration (b-day) he was drinking. Thanks!

Answers:    If he is drinking, he is not recovering. He is probably diagnosed beside a dual-diagnosis meaning that he is an user and a alcoholic. If he was attending crowd like he is supposed to be doing within recovery, he wouldn't be drinking; And if he think he is fooling somebody, he's only fooling himself. Then again possibly he is just untrained for recovery. It is entirely up to the individual to produce up his/her mind as to when they are tired enough to stop. Remember, some are sicker than others. You might want to suggest going to a interview with him sometime. If he get angry at the suggestion of this, then you will know what he's up to.
He categorically shouldn't be drinking. Same as an alcoholic in rescue shouldn't be using any other drugs. You're right, using alcohol decreases inhibitions and could organize him to use.
