I am having a nucular stress test tomorrow and was told I could not have any caffeine for 24 hours before they did the test. Since I drink close to a 2 ltr. drink in 24 hours and I tried earlier in the week going without the caffeine, which gave me the worst headache of my life and very sick to my stomache. They did inform me if I was sick like that they would not do my test and reschedule it. I have tried this week to cut my diet coke down and I am drinking only 1/2 of a 2 liter by still starting with a headache already. What difference does it make about the caffiene if I just take a sip every hour to prevent such a bad headache. I am still drinking a lot of water any ideas on how to prevent a caffiene headache? Help!!

The caffeine can cause a false interpretation of the stress test. Meaning you could have to go through other tests if an arrhythmia showed up that may have been caused from the caffeine or a fast heart rate. These indicator would cause a cardiologist concern. The cardiologist would not be able to tell if it was caused from the caffeine of if your heart was actually doing this. These tests are very expensive. Insurance coverage varies. You could be paying out of pocket for these if you are not careful. You should tell them to reschedule your test and ask how to avoid the caffeine with withdrawal . You may have to put up with the headache until you can get the test done. Take some Tylenol.
