12 year old Maltese with heart problem?

Our vet wants us to have a $500-600 scan done to determine the extent of a probable enlarged heart, after which she'll be put on meds necessary. Wonder if anyone went through this with their pooch and the quality of life attained by doing this. She's such a sweetheart and we don't want her to suffer.

At 12 years old your little baby has lived a long and wonderful life. But I would spend the money on the scan to see. Like you said you don't want your little dog to suffer. I had a cat that had a trach. I love him to death (i did not have him very long). I spent 400 dollars to save him. Spend the money, no telling maybe it is not that bad and they can do something about it before it gets worse. God bless and Good luck.
