I read a great article years ago around drug naming and one about naming cars. In the overnight case of cars, they were running out of the great name. In the case of drugs, they made them up.
But, surrounded by both cases, they issue was equal: what is a name the potential customers will both remember and perceive a positive association with. For example, it is no coincidence that Viagra might remind on of Vigor.
So, contained by the end, their staff net many of them up (sometimes using made up words, sometimes latin, etc.). The name are then tested as the previously person noted.
