1)At equalibrium in pure marine at 25degree C

How does the H+ compare to the OH?

What is the H+

2)A patient have been vomiting for a prolonged term of time

What effect would this hae on the H+ in the blood?

How will the bicarbonate buffer system respond to this coppers?
Answers:
vomitting for prolonged period results within metabolic alkalosis due to loss of the acid component surrounded by the gastric juice (HCl)
At STP (standard T & pressure), [H+] = [OH-] if pH = 7 (which it would be for pure water).

Vomiting for a prolonged spell would cause a metabolic acidosis (because of loss of HCl from the stomach). The HCO3- would shift such that perturbatuion of the system be kept in check. When the [plasma OH-] increases, the buffering system would increase CO2 (which is turned into an bitter by carbonic anhydrase), so, initially, [plasma H+] would decrease (after prolonged emesis) and would commence to climb back to everyday. The patient's respiratory rate should drop (to increase CO2) whenever the pH of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) increases.
